Flaring is expected at some point in the next 24 hours

Issued on Wednesday 15 May 2024 at 4:05pm

We would like to make you aware of some flaring which is expected to take place at some point in the next 24 hours.

This is due to the start-up of a unit following a short shut down for maintenance.

The flaring occurs as part of the process to bring units back on-line. Flaring is the controlled burning of refinery gases (at the flare structure) from plant safety and vent systems. The gases are mixed with steam and the steam is added to improve combustion and reduce smoke generation. Flaring can also be noisy, and we will endeavour to minimise it at all times.

Please be assured that this activity is undertaken in a safe and controlled way.

We have staff on hand to deal with any enquires or issues you may have. You can contact our Security Control Centre on a 24-hour basis by ringing 0151 350 4545. The Security Control Team will then refer the call to the colleague best qualified to respond to you.

We would like to thank you for your patience during this period.
